The invention relates to a paste-like detergent composition and to a process for preparing the same. The detergent composition comprises as main active components soaps prepared by the saponification of vegetable oils having a content of unsaturated fatty acids higher than 75% and nonionic and / or anionic surfactants as secondary active components, and does not comprise auxiliary washing agents containing phosphorus. The detergent is prepared concomitantly with the saponification process, in the presence of a calcium-natrium bentonite, using non-softened water. The resulting detergent composition applicable to washing every kind of textiles at 40 ... 60 degree C in aqueous liquors, by every washing procedure, either manual or in washing machines, for domestic or industrial use, to hand hygiene in industrial environments or to washing solid surfaces.
