The invention relates to a wood turning lathe by overforming a former bar, especially used in small carpenter's shops or small series handicraft industries. According to the invention, the lathe has both an overforming device (C) and a former bar (39) located at the front part of the lathe, on a longitudinal support (16), the overforming head (25) with the pick-up unit (38) sliding along a bar, actuated by a cable (27) operated by means of a hand wheel (28), and a grinding device (D) located at the back part of the lathe, namely in the cutting area, said grinding device (D) comprising a roller system (E) for supporting and guiding along a longitudinal bar, both devices being mounted simultaneously in distinct positions, the abrasive belt driving motor providing by its own weight a positive seat for the abrasive belt, when said belt is not pressed onto the working piece by the worker.
