Contents is segmented on a unit basis of a meaningful structure, meta-information regarding segment data is added to each segment data, and the contents is distributed. The meta-information is attribute information of the segment data and constructed by positioning and time-dependent arrangement of the segment data in the contents structure, a unique ID, and the like. In a receiving apparatus, the segment data and the corresponding meta-information are stored in association with each other. The segment data of the same ID is not stored on the basis of the meta-information. The reproduction can be controlled every segment data. When reproducing in parallel with the reception of the contents, the repetitive reproduction or the pause of the reproduction of the desired segment data of the user can be performed. After the distribution of the contents, the order of the stored segment data can be changed and the segment data is reproduced in accordance with the desire of the user.
