The present invention relates to an apparatus for diagnosing an accelerator pedal failure using the pressure of a driver′s seat and a method thereof comprising: a seat sensor mounted under a driver′s seat to detect the contact area in which a leg of a driver and the driver′s seat make contact and the magnitude of pressure when a driver steps on the accelerator pedal; and a control unit which continuously evaluates changes in the area in which the leg of the driver contacts the driver′s seat and a change in the magnitude of the pressure sensed by the seat sensor in accordance with a change in the pressure of the accelerator pedal and determines a failure possibility of the accelerator pedal based on the evaluated value when the change in the contact area between the leg of the driver and the driver′s seat corresponding to the change in the pressure of the accelerator pedal and the change in the magnitude of the pressure fall out of a predefined reference range.
