A method and material for shrink wrapping articles includes wrapping the article with a shrink wrapping material having a shrink/stretch film outer layer (12) and an inner layer of a non-woven fabric (14). The shrink/stretch film responds to heat by shrinking around the article being wrapped, while the non-woven material aerates to form bubbles (16) thus acting as a cushion between the shrink/stretch film outer layer and the article being wrapped. According to one embodiment of the invention, the article being wrapped is completed enveloped by the material, such as by forming the material into a bag encapsulating the article and then heating the bag to shrink the material into engagement with the article. According to another embodiment of the invention, material is made into a tape by applying an adhesive to the surface of the non-woven fabric which contacts the article being wrapped. The adhesive may either be a pressure sensitive adhesive or a hot melt heat activated adhesive. If a pressure responsive adhesive is used, the film may be a common film instead of a shrink/stretch film, and the adhesive is activated by pressing the material against the article. If a hot melt heat responsive adhesive is used, the material is heated to both shrink the film, thereby causing the non-woven to bubble up and act as a cushion between the film and the article and simultaneously to actuate the adhesive thereby causing the material to adhere to the article being wrapped. |
