PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve low temperature startability of a diesel engine. SOLUTION: This fuel injection device for a diesel engine executes pilot injection and main injection in low temperature starting of an engine (Tw<=Tc). In such a fuel injection device, when the engine speed is a specified value or lower (Ne<=Nest), pilot intervals are kept constant, which is called a fixed mode. When the engine speed exceeds the specified value (Ne>Nest), the pilot interval is varied according to the engine speed, which is called a cold starting mode.
