A circuit interrupter including a housing, separable main contacts disposed in the housing, and an operating mechanism disposed in the housing and interconnected with the contacts. The operating mechanism includes two support members, each having an aperture, an inner surface, and an outer surface. The operating mechanism further includes a support bar disposed between the inner surfaces of the support members and which has ends inserte d in the apertures. The ends have portions that are formed into shoulders that are substantially in contact with the outer surfaces of the support members.
