PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the temp. of a recording head at a timing matched with actual recording operation, and to correct temp. to recording conditions on the basis of the detection result. SOLUTION: In an ink jet recording apparatus, a detection timing control part 77 allows a temp. sensor to detect the temp. of a recording head in a page unit on the basis of the detection judge result of a sheet detection sensor 75A when a medium to be recorded is a sheet and allows the temp. sensor to detect the temp. of the recording head in a predetermined raster unit, for example, in a raster unit headled as one page after cutting on the basis of the detection judge result of a continuous form paper detection sensor 75B when the medium to be recorded is continuous for paper.
