PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder block with a linear which attains less deformation of a cylinder sleeve, a low cost, less consumption of oil, and reduction of piston hammering noises. SOLUTION: A cylinder block main body made of a light alloy has a cylinder sleeve 1 composed of a hollow cylindrical body of cast iron arranged on an inner surface of the main body by insert casting as a linear. Grooves 2 are formed on an outer peripheral surface of the sleeve 1 so as to be extended parallely to each other. Side surfaces of the groove 2 are parallelly formed to each other. The grooves 2, each having depth preferably not exceeding 0.5 mm, are extended in the circumferential or axial direction of the hollow cylindrical body.
