PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject catalyst for polymerization of anα-olefin capable of forming an olefin polymer capable of raising melt tension, excellent in molding processability by using a tetraalkoxy silicone compound having specific structure. SOLUTION: The catalyst comprises (A) a solid catalyst component obtained by contacting (i) a solid catalyst component for polymerization including titanium, magnesium and a halogen as the essential components, with (ii) a silicone compound expressed by formula I [formula II and formula III are each an alicyclic hydrocarbon group or the like having a substituent; x and y are each an integer >=5; R1x, R2x, R3y and R4y are each a substituent having one or more elements selected from group comprising C, H, O, a halogen or the like; R5 is a 1-6C linear hydrocarbon] and (B) an organic aluminum compound. The component i preferably includes an electron donor and the electron donor is selected from a group comprising an ester of organic acid and an organic acid halide.
