PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a data recorder which is capable of classifying folders storing data and is capable of storing the data whose attribute are common in pertinent folders for every data and is capable of performing the recording of the data so that retrieval posterior to the recording becomes easy at the time of transferring and recording picture data and sound data recorded with the external device of a digital still camera or the like to a recording medium different from the memory and the memory card or the like incorporated in the external device. SOLUTION: This device is provided with an input means 20 fetching picture data 10 from a digital still camera 100, a recording means 60 which stores the picture data 10 in holders and records the data on a recording medium 300 and a classifying means 50 classifying the holders by attribute information on the data 10 and the device is constituted so as to store the data in pertinent folders for every data whose attribute are common at the time of recording the fetched data 10 on the recording medium 300. Moreover, there are information on photographing costs and dates and information on kinds of machines or the like as the attribute information.
