PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a simple zoom lens which is excellent in power saving property and which is easily adjusted at an assembling time though it is compact and high image quality is obtained. SOLUTION: This zoom lens is constituted by arranging a 1st group 1 having a positive focal distance, a 2nd group 2 having a negative focal distance, an aperture diaphragm S, a 3rd group 3 having a positive focal distance and a 4th group 4 having a positive focal distance in turn from an object side. When zooming is executed from a short focus end to a long focus end, the group 2 is monotonously moved to an image side from the object side. Beside, the group 3 is moved to the object side from the image side first and moved to the image side after it arrives at the most object side in an area being nearer to the long focus end side than an intermediate focal distance.
