摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ultrasonic propagation speed measuring apparatus short in measuring time, capable of being incorporated in a fiber manufacturing line, reduced in measuring error, adaptable even to a fiber bundle comprising a large number of single fibers, generating no irreversible change in an article to be measured and enabling perfect non-destructive evaluation and a carbon fiber manufacturing apparatus equipped therewith. SOLUTION: An ultrasonic propagation speed measuring apparatus 10 is equipped with an ultrasonic wave generating means 13 for generating ultrasonic waves in a fiber bundle, first and second ultrasonic detection means 14, 15 arranged at two different places separated from the ultrasonic wave generating means in the same direction to detect the ultrasonic waves propagating through the fiber bundle, a detection time measuring means 18 for measuring the detection times due to the detection means 14, 15 and a control and operation device having the drive control parts of the respective means and an ultrasonic propagation speed operation part. The fiber bundle of which the ultrasonic propagation speed is measured is moved and stopped by nip rollers 11, 12 and predetermined tension is applied to the fiber bundle by these nip rollers. The ultrasonic wave generating means 13 and the ultrasonic detection means 14, 15 are brought into contact with the fiber bundle under pressure by a pressure contact means 17.
