PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a chain winding device capable of always obtaining a secure engagement with a sprocket regardless of the varied posture of the chain and being stably wounded or let out. SOLUTION: A sprocket 21 and a roller 23 forming a guide mechanism of a chain are rotatably fitted to a case respectively so that both axes are parallel to each other and the upper end of the bottom of the engagement groove 22 of the sprocket 21 is the same level with the upper end of the bottom of engagement groove 24 of the roller 23. Further, a ball 25 having a lower limit weight so that the chain 3 does not get loose in the horizontal part is attached to the front end of the letting-out side.
