PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact constitution using a pump without an accumulator, to reduce energy loss while using a high discharge-pressure pump also used for ABS control, to improve durability by restraining the frequency of use and generation of heat, and to improve reliability of the device by preventing the occurrence of an operational failure at the time of ABS control. SOLUTION: This brake control device includes a control means (j) for determining the necessity of braking a vehicle, and a target hydraulic pressure which is a brake hydraulic pressure supplied to a wheel cylinder (b) according to the running condition judged by a running condition judging means (h), and executing automatic braking control for operating a motor M of a pump (g) and a gate valve (d) according to the above determination to automatically generate braking force. The control means (j) is adapted to operate the motor M under the proportional control according to the target hydraulic pressure and operate the gate valve (d) while the opening of the valve is proportional- controlled according to the target hydraulic pressure when the automatic braking control is executed.
