PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the back focus of a projection lens from becoming large when a reflection type liquid crystal display panel is used. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal projector device is constituted as follows. Light beams from a light source 1 are separated to the light beams of B, G and R by a cross dichroic mirror 2 and a dichroic mirror 5 and made incident on PBSes 6B, 6G and 6R. Then, the (s) polarized components thereof are reflected and made incident on the reflection type liquid crystal display panels 7B, 7G and 7R. Besides, the modulated light beams of the (p) polarized components reflected and modulated by a video signal are emitted and transmitted through the respective PBSes. Besides, they are properly converged by convex lenses 8B, 8G and 8R and synthesized by a cross prism 9 so as to be projected on a screen by a projection lens 10. Then, devices shown by 3 and 4 in a figure are the total reflection mirrors.
