An organic electroluminescence device material and an organic electroluminescence device containing the material. The organic electroluminescence device material is a metal complex of a compound represented by formula (I) and a metal ion:wherein R1 represents a hydrogen atom or a substituent; R2 represents a hydrogen atom, an aliphatic hydrocarbon group, an aryl group or a heterocyclic group; Z represents an atomic group necessary for forming a 5- or 6-membered ring; and M represents a hydrogen atom or a cation.
