PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent loss due to re-expansion of cooling medium remaining in a small space and loss due to return thereof to a suction chamber in a rotary compressor while reducing noise generated by pressure pulsation in a compression chamber. SOLUTION: A rotary compressor has a cylinder 5 forming a cylinder chamber 11 and a piston 7 arranged in the cylinder chamber 11. The piston 7 consists of a roller 7a to be revolved in the cylinder chamber 11 and a vane 7b for partitioning the cylinder chamber 11 into a suction chamber 11a and a compression chamber 11b together with the roller 7a, wherein a small space 16 is provided in communication with the compression chamber 11b, instead of the suction chamber 11a, in a predetermined section.
