PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication terminal that predicts whether communication with an opposite station sending a connection request before line connection is voice communication or image communication and uses a telephone function or a FAX function to connect the line on the basis of the prediction result so as to reduce a line connection time in the automatic reception of an incoming call. SOLUTION: A storage section 3 of the communication terminal 1 stores past communication history for each opposite station and the communication terminal 1 predicts whether a connection request from an optional station requires voice communication or image communication when receiving connection request from an arbitrary station, by using the communication history of the station. Then the terminal 1 connects a line to the opposite station on the basis of the result of prediction. Since the terminal 1 selects a telephone function or a FAX function depending on the opposite station sending a connection request in this way, the terminal 1 avoids a useless line connection time with the opposite station in the case of automatic reception of an incoming call so as to reduce the communication cost.
