PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetic transducing head, a thin film magnetic head capable of increasing resistance change and obtaining suitable coercive force and a method for manufacturing them. SOLUTION: A laminated body which is a spin valve film is constituted of a first soft magnetic layer 22, a second soft magnetic layer 23, a non- magnetic metal layer 24, a ferromagnetic layer 25, an anti-ferromagnetic layer 26 and a protective layer 27 laminated successively on a base layer 21 and its electric resistance is changed in accordance with the relative angle of a direction of magnetization of the ferromagnetic layer 25 and a direction of magnetization of the first and the second soft magnetic layer 22 and 23. A layer 28 between soft magnetic layers having magnetism and moreover electric resistance higher than that of the first soft magnetic layer 22 is provided in the first soft magnetic layer 22. As electrons are reflected on the surface of the layer 28 between soft magnetic layers when current flows in the laminated body, the path of the electrons in narrowed so that a resistance changing ratio is increased.
