PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing unit that can output a sharp image without losing reproducibility of an edge part and causing any moire. SOLUTION: The image processing unit applies gray level modulation processing to a received image signal for a prescribed period. In this case, the image processing unit is provided with a smoothing processing means 1 that applies smoothing processing to the image signal, gray level characteristic 1st detection means 2 that detects gray level direction of a pixel whose edge is to be emphasized on the basis of the smoothed image signal, a continuity 1st decision means 2 that decides the consecutive number in a specific scanning direction with respect to a pixel of the same gray level direction, a consecutive 1st decision means 3 that decides a consecutive number in the specific scanning direction, an edge selection means 4c that selects either edge emphasis processing means of a 1st edge emphasis processing means 4a and a 2nd edge emphasis processing means 4b, and a gradation processing means 5 that applies gray level modulation processing for each predetermined pixel period in the specific scanning direction. |
