PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject phenylene group-bearing polymer composition that can form coating layer of high uniformity and is suitable as a raw material for protecting film or insulating film in liquid crystal display by using a specific (co)polymer and a surfactant. SOLUTION: The objective (co)polymer composition includes (A) 100 pts.wt. of a phenylene group-bearing (co)polymer of the formula X is -CQQ'- [Q and Q' are each a (halogenated) alkyl, H, a halogen, an aryl], fluorenylene; R1-R20 are each H, a halogen, a monovalent organic group; l is 5-100 (mole) %; m and n are each 0-95 mole % where l+m+n=100%}, (B) 0.001-1 pt.wt. per 100 pts.wt. of the component A, of a surfactant and, when necessary (C) a solvent. As a component A, are cited a silicone surfactant, a cationic surfactant, an anionic surfactant, a nonionic surfactant, an amphoteric surfactant, but the silicone surfactant is preferred.
