PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antiviral medicine which can exhibit an excellent antiviral activity and is useful for preventing and treating various kinds of viral infectious diseases, by including a known naphthacenedione compound having a topoisomerase I-inhibiting action and an antitumor action. SOLUTION: This antiviral medicine contains a naphthacenedione compound or its salt. The naphthacenedione compound is preferably a compound of the formula (R1 to R10 are each H, a 1 to 6C alkyl or alkoxy, acetyl, acetoxy or the like). The antiviral medicine can be administered in the form of a solid preparation, such as tablets or capsules, containing 0.1 to 100 wt.% of the naphthacenedione compound as an active ingredient, or in the form of a liquid preparation, such as injections, containing 0.1 to 10 wt.% of the naphthacenedione compound as the active ingredient. The naphthacenedione compound is preferably orally administered at a daily dose of 10 to 500 mg for an adult or preferably parenterally (preferably intravenously) administered at a daily dose of 1 to 100 mg for an adult.
