PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing device for an optical fiber coupler and its manufacturing method capable of improving productivity of an optical fiber coupler and moreover capable of miniaturizing the manufacturing device. SOLUTION: In the manufacturing device 20 for an optical fiber coupler wherein optical fibers 3 are mutually heat welded with a heater 9 and the heat welded part is extended to manufacture the optical fiber coupler, the heater 9 is provided with the zirconia made heat generating body having the slit 12a housing the optical fiber 3. In this case, since the heat generating body 12 generates heat preferentially in the inner surface based on a characteristic of material, when the optical fiber 3 are housed into the slit 12, the optical fibers 3 are heat welded at a satisfactorily high temperature in a short time. Therefore, the heat generating body 12 is effective as a countermeasure for preventing invasion of impurities from the external part. Also, the performance of the heat generating body 12 is maintained for a long period even if the optical fibers 3 are heat welded at a high temperature. Further, the evaporation of impurities imparting a bad influence to a characteristic of the optical fiber coupler hardly occurs from the heat generating body 12. |
