PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing tea, capable of sufficiently carrying out deactivation of an enzyme without generating thick-leafed odor or lowering shape and gloss of product tea leaf even when thick-leafed raw material is used. SOLUTION: In a process for steaming fresh leaf of tea, tea leaf subjected to first steaming treatment is continuously subjected to additional steaming treatment once or repeatedly without cooling. By repeatedly steaming fresh leaf of tea without inserting cooling process between each steaming, tea leaf can be maintained for a long time in optimum steaming temperature range and sufficient deactivation of enzyme can be carried out till the center of tea leaf and problem such as thick-leafed odor in the case where thick-leafed tea raw leaf is used as raw material can be solved and problems such as collapse of tea leaf shape and worsening of gloss due to excessive rise of tea leaf temperature are not produced.
