PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the temperature of the paper non-passing part of a heating roll from excessively rising even in the case of using an extremely thin heating roll by predicting the temperature of the paper non-passing part of the heating roll and controlling fixing operation is accordance with the number of the image fixing of recording media sheets classified to plural groups in a specified period. SOLUTION: After performing specified image processing at an image processing part 2 on the basis of image data transmitted from the outside, a CPU controls printing operation in the image recording part 3 in a desk type printer. In such a case, the CPU performs such control by discriminating whether recording paper 13 is of a small size or a larger size by using discrimination parts provided in paper cassettes 15 and 16 or printing information. That is, fixing operation is controlled by classifying the recording paper 13 to which fixing processing is performed in a thermal fixing device 22 to a plurality of groups in accordance with the width of the paper 13 in the axial direction of the heating roll 23, and predicting the temperature of the paper non-passing part of the roll 23 in accordance with the number of the image fixing of sheets of the paper 13 classified to the plurality of groups in the specified period.
