PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speed up packaging operation and to avoid biting of an object to be packaged due to blow up of the object in introducing replacement gas while keeping a high gas replacement rate to prevent defective articles from occurring, in a bag-making packaging machine equipped with a replacement gas passage at a tube of a former which forms a wrapper into a bag. SOLUTION: The bag-making and packaging machine comprises a plate material 21 stuck to the interior of a front face of a tube member 13 wherein a replacement gas passage 20 is formed, which vertically extends in the tube member 13 from its upper part to its lower end. In addition a cross-sectional area of its passage increases as coming toward a lower portion, thereby allowing a required amount of replacement gas to be introduced into a wrapper at a slow speed.
