PURPOSE: A method is provided to predict temperature behavior and prevent occurrence of casting failure by detecting molten steel temperature in a tundish, detecting lowering of molten steel temperature during retention of the molten steel between the tundish and a mold, detecting temperature of liquid equivalent to the molten steel in the tundish and its isothermal formula on line, and finding continuous casting velocity with a given isothermal relationship. CONSTITUTION: Temperature Tliq+0deg.C of liquid equivalent to molten steel in a tundish and its isothermal formula Tliq+Ydeg.C are detected on line. In a range of Tliq+X deg.C<Tvert<Tliq+Y deg.C, continuous casting velocity is found and automatically adjusted. At that time, it is desirable that Tvert is molten metal temperature in the tundish, where X=5 and Y=15. During the casting time, the molten metal condition is on line displayed on a screen by a coordinate, where velocity of continuous casting is an x axis and molten metal temperature in the tundish is a y axis for the coordinate of the molten metal. Also, a continuous casting facility is equipped having a vibration upright mold 3.1 and casting velocity of maximum 10 m/min.
