PURPOSE: An apparatus for driving a display and driving method thereof is provided to make change of scale in dark video having low average picture level in plasma display panel apparatus. CONSTITUTION: The device displays and quantizes input video signal to display it on the display. The apparatus time-divides one field period representing screen display period into a plurality of sub-fields having different emission numbers, and executes scale display of input video signal by varying emission numbers of the display depending on combination of each sub-field. The apparatus has a detector(12) and a gain controller(16). The detector(12) detects the highest video level of the quantized input video signal in each frame. The gain controller(16) is supplied with the highest video level from the detector and controls gain of the input video signal so that the highest video signal is the highest quantization level of the display. |
