PURPOSE: A device and a method for processing a VCR(video cassette recorder) are provided to rapidly and precisely travel to a selected position based on a time code. CONSTITUTION: A system controller(601) supplements recording of identify number and location information of a tape for controlling travel of the tape. A control signal process unit(603) records identify number and location information of the tape in a VASS(VHS address search system) area of a control track in a time code type. A time code process unit(609) receives a target traveling location while detecting identify number and location information for outputting to the system controller. A tape information store unit(610) stores information about programs of the tape for supplying to the system controller. The tape travels at a high speed to reduce speed at a location from the target program. Therefore, the tape precisely travels to a target location while reducing detecting time.
