PURPOSE: Both of a conventional low speed ASC II communication system and a high speed binary system is supported in order to control the function of private branch exchange equipment by constituting a system to change-over the operation mode of a port into another one whenever a mode change-over code is received through the port. CONSTITUTION: The system is constituted to change-over the operation mode of the port into another one whenever the mode change-over code is received through the port. For example, when a prescribed control word is received through a serial port (13) in the private branch exchange equipment (10), a microcomputer (11) changes the mode to be the interruption one in a universe serial asynchronous receiver/transmitter(USART) (12). In the interruption mode, an application supported by ASC II is stopped and USART (12) processes input high speed data in accordance with the previously programmed second software or an instruction suitable for the operation mode of TCP/IP or the like which is normally utilized in Internet, for example.
