PURPOSE: An ignition plug for measuring ion current and a controlling method and control circuit therefor are provided to perform ignition and an ion current measurement with few number of parts and a simple structure. CONSTITUTION: In an ignition plug for measuring ion current in which a terminal for energizing for making ignition current (IGK) flow to a heater element(3) arranged on a combustion chamber side within an ignitor(2) is provided, the ignitor(2) is arranged on a plug housing and is insulated from the plug housing and the plug housing is electrically connected with an engine block (earth), a diode(15) is integrally incorporated between a series circuit constituted of the ignitor(2) and the heater element(3) and a main body(4) of the ignition plug or is arranged in the form of a module, within a terminal side area of the plug. Instead of the diode(15), a semi-conductor switch such as a MOSFET provided with a voltage evaluation circuit may be integrally incorporated or be arranged in the form of the module.
