PURPOSE: To provide a fishing reel that is equipped with a changeable braking system that can simply control the braking force with the brake weights. CONSTITUTION: This changeable brake mechanism is equipped with a plurality of small-size braking weights 18 which are individually set to a plurality of shafts 16 extending in the radial direction. When the spool 7 is rotated, the brake weights 18 are energized outward in the radial direction by the centrifugal force to come into contact with the brake race. The adjusting dial 38 can be operated from the outer face of the reel main body and is selectively engaged to the cum collar 22. Thus, the cum collar 22 is rotated with the adjusting dial 38 to arrange a plurality of brake weights 18 to the positions at which they can come into contact to the brake races and to the positions at which they cannot come into contact, as the number of the weights is changed.
