The drill part (18) is connected to an external drive source via a coupling means (21) which can be moved in the axial direction. A tap (10) for the end of a branch pipe from a mains pipe (1) comprises a housing (11), a closure part (15) for interrupting fluid communication between the housing inlet (12) and exit (13), a drill part mounted in the closure part, and a coupling means in the drill part for connecting it to an external drive source. The drill part can be moved between a resting position where it is located inside the closure part, and a drilling position where it protrudes out of the housing exit in the closure part, so that the tap can be fixed to the wall of the mains pipe in order to drill a hole in it. The coupling means can be moved in the axial direction.
