摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration of an image when a signal charge is read at the resolution of not more than 1/n in a solid-state image pickup device where n-pieces of pixel strings are installed. SOLUTION: Whenever a signal charge generated in the pixels '1', '3', '5',... of one pixel string 1a in the pixel strings 1a and 1b which are separately installed with a distance D is transferred to the final stage 4a of an analog shift register 3a and is sent to a charge detection part 5 by a transfer clock ϕ1B, a reset pulse RS is generated and is discharged to a reset drain 8. When a signal charge generated in the pixels '2', '4', '6',... of the other pixel string 1b is transferred to the final stage 4b of an analog shift register 3b, it is accumulated in the capacitor 6 of the charge detection part 5 at the timing of a transfer clock ϕ2B, charge quantity is read and it is outputted from an output circuit 9 as an output signal. All signal charges of the pixel string 1a are rejected and only the signal charge of the pixel string 1b is taken out. Thus, the charge can be read with the resolution of 1/2 without deteriorating an image.
