PLASMA DISPLAY PANEL AND METHOD FOR ITS FORMATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display panel(PDP) having barrier ribs whose top layer is solely black and base layer is white or in light color near thereto and establish a method for forming PDPs. SOLUTION: A PDP 1 has barrier ribs 8 on the back face plate, and that part of the barrier ribs 8 excluding its top layer 8t is made of a material white or in light color near thereto, and only the top of the barrier ribs 8 is irradiated with a laser beam so that the layer consisting of a barrier rib material is blackened. The method of forming the PDP includes a process to form barrier ribs white or in light color near thereto and a process to irradiate the barrier rib 8 with laser beam and blacken only the top of the barrier ribs 8.
