PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To change the array of directors near the surface or at the surface by displacing first and second electrode structures from each other at a thickness size and disposing at least either of the first and second electrode structures within a bulk region. SOLUTION: A boundary is delineated by substrates 101 and 102 in a liquid crystal display cell 100. There is a thickness of liquid crystals 103 between the substrates 101 and 102, and this liquid crystal layer is removed from the front portion of the cell, in order to make the structure of the substrates 101 and 102 visible. The first electrode structure 108 is placed on the lower substrate 101, and a series of ridges 104 are disposed on the electrode structure 108. Furthermore, the second electrode structures 105 to 107 are formed on the ridges 104. Then, the second electrode structures 105 to 107 (connected to each other) are displaced from the first electrode structure 108, along the thickness size of the cell. Furthermore, at least one of the first and second electrode structures 108, 105 to 107 are disposed within the bulk region. |
