PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carrier for the brass wire of a negative electrode collector in an alkaline primary battery having various characteristics such as strength allowing reliable carrying of the brass wire without transferring any impurity to the brass wire from the carrier. SOLUTION: A leg part 20 and a barrel part 22 are formed by a stainless steel pipe, and a brass pipe is externally fitted to the stainless steel pipe to form protective materials 20a, 22a. The protective materials 20a, 22a are also formed by winding a brass plate around the stainless pipe so as to form an externally fitted brass pipe. Furthermore, the protective materials 20a, 22a are made by providing brass rods on the external surface of the stainless pipe side by side along its axial direction. In addition, the brass plate is placed on the top face of the leg part and the brass plate is wound around the circumference of the barrel to make the protective materials.
