PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hybrid system which can facilitate the operation up to the setting wherein a printing function is made executable by making a printer functions as a printing means. SOLUTION: The printer 1 is equipped with a control part 17, which detects the cartridge mount state of a cartridge mount part 14 and transmits a printing function setting state signal to a host computer 2 through an interface 18 when the mount state is changed by mounting a print cartridge, e.g. when a read cartridge mounted in the cartridge amount part 14 is replaced with a print cartridge. The host computer 2 once receiving the printing function setting state signal judges by state monitor software 22 that the setting state is changed from an image read function setting state to a printing function setting state, and then ends image read software 24 and starts print software 23.
