PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve picture quality by reducing generation of pseudo contour in a display picture in a gradation display method for displaying a dynamic image in the multiple gradations using sub-fields. SOLUTION: In this gradation display method for displaying a multiple gradation picture by dividing one field into plural weighted sub-fields, and superimposing the binary pictures corresponding to the plural sub-fields, the method comprises two or more kinds of sub-field selection methods for selecting the sub-fields corresponding to each gradation, and applies the sub-field selection methods by changing over them in a field unit. In the two or more kinds of sub-field selection methods, the sub-fields with large weights are made to differ from each other in boundary value of which different results of the selections are required. Thus, the gradation in which a pseudo contour is generated is changed over field by field, and a place in which the pseudo contour is generated is changed over field by field in the display picture. Therefore, the pseudo contours are averaged among the plural fields, to be reduced. |
