Plates (21) of one polarity are formed with tabs (22) on the top edge, above the chemically active level, which are aligned when the plates are stacked. Two transverse bars (25), slightly wider than the stack, are brought up against the tab sides. Each is connected to one pole of a welding machine, which passes current through the resulting circuit. Opt., laser or ultrasonic welding is employed, the weld so produced interconnects the plates through the bars. The latter are then bridged by a flat plate (24), to which they are welded. The plate carries a terminal post (23) to receive the connection from the external circuit; this is based on a vertical bolt (28), whose head is trapped in the plate. In a variant, the bridging plate is formed as a single flat piece with turned down sides making contact with the plate tabs. |
