PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a socket for an electrical component capable of reducing the actuation force of an operation member while securing a contact pressure between an electric component terminal and a contact pin. SOLUTION: In an IC socket 11, a contact pin 15 is disposed on a socket body 13 so that it can make contact with or part from a terminal of an IC carrier 12 mounted on the upper side of a socket body 13, a latch member 16 for pressing an upper surface 12a of the IC carrier 12 is turnably disposed on the socket body 13, an operation member 18 is disposed so that it can make reciprocating motion relative to the socket body 13, and moving the operation member 18 displaces the contact pin 15 and causes the latch member 16 to make turning motion. Further, a lock pawl 18e is formed as 'a lock part' on the operation member 18 and a boss 16d for latch locking on which the lock pawl 18e is locked is formed as 'a locked part' on the latch member 16. When the IC carrier 12 is pressed by the latch member 16, the lock pawl 18e is locked on the boss 16d for latch lockjng, thereby regulating the turning motion of the latch member 16 in the releasing direction.
