PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pattern collating device with which the accuracy of correlation is not almost lowered even when a pattern is varied. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a sample pattern set part Ai210 for recording the set of varied sample patterns, a differential pattern set part Bi230 for operating a difference between the sample patterns belonging to the same set and for recording a set composed of the elements of the sets of differences, a main component analyzing part 250 for analyzing a main component in respect to the sets stored in the differential pattern set part, a collation pattern input part 270 for inputting a collation pattern to be collated, a difference operating part 280 for operating a difference between the sample pattern belonging to the sample pattern set part and the inputted collation pattern and a correlation operation part 290 for composing the partial space of the difference of a peculiar vector found by main component analysis due to the main component analyzing part and finding the correlation of the sample pattern and the collation pattern from the size of a shading component into the partial space of the difference between the sample pattern and the collation pattern.
