PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high-quality picture by securing a sustaining period while shortening a scanning period by means of the drive in a write-in selection type panel and the drive in an erasure selection type panel with respect to the impressing of scanning pulses on scanning electrodes. SOLUTION: In this method for driving an AC type plasma display provided with scanning electrodes, sustaining electrodes and data electrodes, respective pulses to be impressed at a certain timing which are scanning pulses having negative polarities to be impressed on the scanning electrode side of a scanning period for selecting cells performing the display and data pulses having positive polarities which are to be impressed on data electrodes, and respective pulses which are to be impressed in next timing are made so as to be timewisely overlapped within a discharge-formation delay time.
