PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin-film magnetic head in which a track can be made especially narrow, a magnetic path length is made short, and an inductance can be reduced, and to provide a manufacturing method of the magnetic head. SOLUTION: A coil layer 17 as a first layer is formed, in such a way that the surface 17a of the coil layer 17 is situated on the same face as a reference plane A when the bonding face of a track-width regulation part 14 to an upper- part core layer 16 in the rear of the track-width regulation part 14 is used as the reference plane A. Thereby, the coil layer is formed as a two-layer structure, and the width of the coil layer 17 can be reduced. At the same time, the height up to a second coil insulating layer 24 covering a second coil layer 23 from a lower-part core layer 10 can be reduced. In addition, since the thickness of the coil layer 17 can be increased, a width size T4 of the coil layer 17 can be reduced. Thereby, a magnetic path can be made short, and an inductance can be reduced.
