PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for detecting an insertion amount of a conductive object between electrodes without being affected by the circumferential situation. SOLUTION: This end detector for a conductive object comprises a transmitting electrode 2 mounted in parallel to the moving direction of an end of a conductive object 1, a receiving electrode 3 mounted oppositely to the transmitting electrode 2 through the conductive object 1, a power source 4 for applying an AC signal S1 of frequency f1 and an AC signal S2 of frequency f2 to the transmitting electrode 2, and a detecting means for detecting an insertion amount of the end of the conductive object 1 between the transmitting electrode 2 and the receiving electrode 3 on the basis of the electric current I1 of frequency f1 and the electric current I2 of frequency f2 produced on the receiving electrode 3, a electric line of force produced by the AC signal S1 is a distribution of the density continuously and monotoneously increased in the end moving direction of the conductive object 1, and a electric line of force produced by the AC signal S2 is a distribution of the density, having the inverse shape of that of the electric line of force produced by the AC signal S1.
