PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To clarify at which stage and how timing reproduction should be started and to efficiently reproduce symbol timing by estimating a transmission signal by utilizing a received signal, calculating an error between the transmission signal and the received signal and estimating a timing error on the basis of the error and the reliability of the transmission signal. SOLUTION: A transmission signal estimating part 501 estimates a transmission signal by utilizing a received signal sliced by a slicer 404. An error calculating part 502 calculates an errorΔf between an estimated transmission waveform f (t) and the waveform of a received signal that is actually received. A df/dt calculating part 505 calculates df/dt on the basis of the transmission signal estimated by the part 501 and outputs the calculated df/dt to a timing error estimating part 503. The part 503 estimates a timing errorΔt by using the errorΔf and df/dt and outputs the estimatedΔt to an interpolator 402.
