PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method for an internal combustion engine by which fuel consumption and engine output can be improved, through two-step fuel injection to a cylinder. SOLUTION: Midway on a fuel supply passage through which fuel is supplied in a cylinder, a distribution pump 1 is provided for pressurizing the fuel to be injected in the cylinder and stopping it via a plunger 9 rotating and moving in the axial direction. By injecting the fuel in the cylinder by two steps through lowering fuel pressure temporarily in the fuel injection stroke caused by rotation of the plunger 9, fuel consumption and output of the engine can be improved.
