摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively set a subordinate standby area by positioning a main standby area in a unformatted area and the subordinate standby area in a formatted area, and dynamically giving an initial segment address and sectioning the subordiante stand by area. SOLUTION: The formatted area 42 is divided into two, i.e., subordiante standby areas S1 to S3 and a user read/write area 44. The main standby area R, corrects 1st-class defects and some of 2nd-class defects and the standby areas S1 to S3 correct the 2nd-class defects. After the use of tubs standby logic blocks in the main standby area R is completed, the subordinate standby areas S1 to S3 are formed according to a command. Then a period wherein the subordiante standby areas S1 to S3 are sectioned by being given an initial segment address is not limited and the size is not limited either. Further, address values of segment sectors of the subordinate standby areas S1 to S3 are not limited.
