PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control the reduction property of molten slag by supplying carbon into the molten slag. SOLUTION: A main electrode 11 of a DC resistance ash melting furnace is adapted to be a carbon electrode. When the reducing property of the molten slag 4 is increased, the main electrode 11 is deeply inserted into the molten slag 4 for sub-merge arc heating operation. Hereby, carbon of the main electrode 11 is actively consumed, and the carbon is actively supplied into the molten slag 4. When the reduction property of the molten slag 4 is lowered, insertion depth of the main electrode 11 into the molten slag 4 is reduced for achievement of resistance heating operation. Hereby, consumption of the carbon is reduced.
